I had a visit to the ER the other day because a relative of mine
is disabled and had to change her feeding tube and found their code blue
phone to be quite interesting. According to the nurse, the phone with
the batman symbol there in the picture, looking like its from an era of
long past is the hospital emergency phone. It is a landline because it
is reserved for emergency use, at which times they cannot risk the
chance of having any disconnects. She further explained that when that
phone rings, every staff member of the hospital emergency room had to be
at full alert.
Makes perfect sense to me, considering the only times it will be in use is when there is a serious problem. It sent chills down my spine thinking about what scenarios would involve the need to use the archaic looking telephone. It did humble me to know that each time a conversation took place using that phone, it was a matter of life or death. I found the batman symbol on the phone to be very amusing. Reminiscent of the gigantic batman light they shine in the movies to call him to save the day. Despite the ominous purpose of the phone, I felt it was in good taste that one can add a certain humor to its presentation. Just goes to show, even in the worst of times, a little humor goes a long way.
